New Teams Competing in the WSOBP VI
This year’s WSOBP VI is guaranteed to have the most abundant talent pool ever seen with high profile players teaming up to win the $50,000 Championship title. With no limitations on the free agent market, trade deadline, or B.A.C levels; some of the most controversial players are joining forces and targeting your cups!
We have done our research and compiled a list of the most dangerous teams to compete against in this year’s World Series of Beer Pong. This article is not a top 10 list, it was created to announce the new formation of talented teams and to give you a background of the players involved…
The player’s responses are from the following questions we asked:
1. What are the top 3 finishes you have placed in a tournament $5k+? How many satellites have you won this year?
2. Who is your partner for the WSOBP VI?
3. If you win the WSOBP VI, what will you spend your money on?
4. If you could change one thing to make beer pong better, what would it be?
1. Bangerang: Thomas Reap and Kris Frazer
Thomas Reap- I tied with pop for 1st in the DOE Triple Crown throw down. I placed 8th in DOE’s first $5k, I finished 3rd with Basile in the 2010 East Coast Beer Pong Championship. All American top 25 and have beat every top player in the world 1-on-1 ask them !!! I’ve also won 4 WSOBP VI satellites so far this year.
I’m playing with Kris Fraser from Jersey as team BANGERANG!!! We’ve never played together in a major but have won plenty of cash games.
With the money I’d help my dad with his business and take care of my Family.
I’d add official REF's or wider tables to make it a 3 or 4 man sport- more people, more revenue, more team oriented. Oh yeah, stop bitching about individual height dif... Ps Jordon of beer pong, cbs news, travel channel, Maxim mag, radio stations, La weekly, Youtube hits, AND VIRGINIABEERPONG.com, GooGLE ME!
Kris Fraser- My three best finishes in $5K+ have all been thirds. Clearly I've been having some issues with third place.
I will be teaming up with Thomas Reap, we have not played in any big tournaments as of late. Our team name for the World Series will be "Bangerang" popularized as the battle cry of The Lost Boys in Hook. Also Jamaican slang for hubbub, uproar, disorder, or disturbance. General exclamation meant to signify approval or amazement.
If we take down the
WSOBP VI, I will take great delight in traveling/training for beach volleyball,
handling some debt, and of course partying like a Rockstar, and possibly man up
and use the money for graduate school or medical school.
I would like to bring back the respect level of beer pong, when I first started
out there were repercussions and consequences for running your mouth.
Respectfully you can have an insane match without tarnishing the level of play.
People not giving you your roll back, moving cups purposely before you shoot,
the list goes on and on. Eventually the game will evolve to a level that one
miss equals a loss and no amount of shit talking is going to change that!
2. As Good As Advertised: Vince Bolhuis & Dane Ellis
Vince Bolhuis- I've only played in a few $5k plus but here are my biggest wins: 1st place in a $2,500 + WSOBP bid in Florida. 1st place with Jason Chichester at the 2010 East Coast Beer Pong Championship. 2nd place at the WSOBP V. I have won 7 WSOBP VI satellite bids this year.
I'm playing w/ Dane Ellis this year at the WSOBP VI. I Played w/ him in AC and although we didn't finish high I feel like that is b/c we had to play Seivert and Byron in the 2nd round of Day 2. They shot their asses off and deserved to win. Dane and I always play together and have great team chemistry. The kid is money when he gets on a featured table and IMO is VERY underrated so I know if we make if to the big stage we should have a decent shot at winning.
If I could change the sport in any way it would be to make everyone actually drink the beer and play the game drunk. I know it doesn't look like it but I always crush beers during vegas/satty’s/ or any big tourney's. I know a lot of "great" players won't drink or just sip on a beer the entire tournament which is IMO weak. Pong started as a drinking game and should be played like one.
If I win the WSOBP I will def plan a vacation to Hawaii or maybe Ireland. Outside of that I think I would blow a few k just for fun and maybe use the rest to buy a car, house, or invest.
Dane Ellis- My best finishes are: AC 2009 3rd place, WS IV 4th place, WS V 9th place. 8 Satellites won this year so far.
My partner is Vince Bolhuis, "As Good As Advertised" is our team name. We have not placed top 5 in any majors together. But feel we should have if we didnt run in to the AC 2010 champions in the second round.
I would probably spend a big chunk on Jerseys and fitted hats from Ron Hamilton. Then the rest would go to the lovely city of Las Vegas in one way or another.
I would make tourneys catered to ability levels such as amateur, semi pro and pro. This way there is no banning from tourneys and it is very clear cut who can play in what tourney. No one will have to play the guessing game of what rules will the runner of the tourney be having on who can play with who. There wouldnt be a set number of tourneys a person can win based on they are playing players of the same skill level so its overall fair.
3. The Young and the Restless: Jason Chichester & Jon Basile
Jason Chichester- My best 3 finishes were 1st place at the
ECBPC with Vince Bolhuis, 1st at the WSOBP V 5k singles tournament , and 5th at
the AABP $5k in Vegas. I really played lackluster at the end of this tournament
and cost Vince the win at this event. I was elated when he agreed to play with
me again in Md because I owed him a tournament. I can honestly say it was the
first time I cost my partner a win at a tournament but it was a great
motivational tool for the ECBPC.
My partner for WS VI is Jon Basile. We have never played in a conventional
tournament together, but we do have experience playing at the BOTE in 2010 we
squared off against Nick V and Nick S in the playoffs against the Midwest.
Basile has always had the game, in the past few months he has found his
swagger, and he is such a great all around player now, also he is a great kid
off the table. It will be a pleasure playing next to him come January.
I am moving back to Rochester, Ny in March 2011, my main focus is getting my
mothers house paid off by the time I move back to the area. The 25k winnings
from the World Series would be a great help in achieving that goal. Also I will
probably get Posada an escort since the only way he ever gets laid is when he
pays for it.
One thing I would change would to have a main event for 50k and use the other
15k to have an event where it would be mandatory to be a coed or all girls
team. I think many of them enjoy coming out and experiencing the big stage in
Vegas, but I would focus on getting more teams out there if they feel they were
in a tournament that was more competitive and more on their level. I feel that
tournament would have many participants and help the growth of beer pong in
getting over 700 teams out there to Vegas.
Jon Basile- I'd say my three best finishes would be 1st place
WBPT 5K Paulie's Invitational with Garrett Malise( check him out, kids an
absolute beast, and definately the top young talent in beer pong)..Great
tournament ran by WBPT Sam Pine's with the finest East Coast players in
attendance..,Then I'd say my 3rd place finish at the ECBPC in Maryland with the
highly controversial yet outstanding top tier player
Reap..Virginiabeerpong.com!!...We finished 1st overall after prelims going
undefeated with an unbelievable cup differential...Congrats to Vince and Jason
though, they definitely deserved to win this tournament..Lastly, I'd put both
my victories in the DOE 2k event and the DOE Triple Crown Throwdown with Pop..
I have won 8 WSOBP satellite bids this year..including one this past weekend in
NJ with POP against Kessler and Kyle Williams..Had to throw that in there to
rub it in my arch enemy Kessler's face..HA HA..just playin, he is an
unbelievable player whom Ive def. learned a lot from on the table..I should
also add that he took $100 off me before the tournament because I'm sure he
would want that to also be known..dammitt
When We win the WSOBP VI this year..I'll either look into buying a new car, adding it to my savings to get my own place and def. bring out my good friends that have been along for the ride to pop bottles with and celebrate the victory..Also, I will buy a 30 foot bindie for goliath, Ron, Dave and Ricky Posada, and Pop.
One thing I would change about beer pong is not a tape line for the shooter but rather for the defenders for obvious reasons.
4. Last of a Dying Breed: Andy Decaluwe & Dan “Goliath” Altizio
Andy decaluwe- My three best finishes are 2nd at the WSOBP V, 3rd and 5th at the two Atlantic City tournaments. I have won 2 satellite bids out of three attempts.
I am partnering with none other then Goliath. Our team name
is Last of a Dying Breed. We have never played together in a tourney, just a
ton of sit and go’s and cash games.
I just started going to a very expensive culinary school, so I will probably
use the money towards that.
I’ve said this before, to improve beer pong we all need to start working together instead of attacking each other. People need to stop being selfish and realize what benefits the sport more then themselves. That way in the end we all can reap the benefits and have better tournaments everywhere.
Dan Altizio- I finished 9th in the Paulies 5k and top 8 in both DoE tourns, but my
best finish on my resume will definitely be penciled in after this
years WSOBP! I have only won one bid (all I need!) and have finished 2nd
and 3rd countless times in a talent enriched east coast, and because of
the level of competition my game has become extremely strong and I look
forward to proving that.
My partner for the WSOBP VI is Andy
Decaluwe, one of the top talents in the entire country! We will be
playing as Last of a Dying Breed, and I cannot wait to stand beside him
at the table. We have not played in any tournaments together before, but
between our sit n go/cash game performances and our mutual respect for
each other's game I'd say you can expect some damage to be done.
If I win the world series I would obviously put a lot of that money
toward college debt and helping out the family, but I would definitely
have a sick party with all of the guys who have been there with me
through this crazy ride, supporting each other throughout. The thing
that makes this event so special is the community. The friendships I
have built as a result of it will last far longer than the game, and to
me that is part of what makes the game and the competition so amazing.
I honestly love the game the way it is. Obviously the game needs to
adapt and grow as time goes on, but I feel that changing the game so
drastically (pongbar/tapeline) frequently hurts its credibility. The
ability of the top players to continuously hit huge shots under
enormous pressure and maintain such a high percentage is astounding, and
their ability to do so should be rewarded and respected. I guess if I
were trying to make an already great game better it would be through
legitimizing it, through the keeping of percentages and formal records. I
hear this is already being worked on, and tv may be on the horizon!
Haha
Thanks very much to All American Beer Pong for their
continued hard work in effort in cultivating the game, and I appreciate
all that you have done/are doing to make the game that much better for
all of us!
5. Fire and Ice: Deep Chakrabraty & Shane Shep
Deep Chakrabraty- Here are my Best finishes… 4th in WS IV, 3rd in WS V, 2nd in AC 2010… I have won 0 satellites...but only played in 3 thus far. No excuse for that though... I Have to get myself back in to beast mode...the competition around these parts is nuts. I haven’t paid to go to Vegas in 4 years and don’t plan to start now...
My teammate is Shane Shep form Mass! We’ll be known as Fire and Ice…
When I win the WSOBP this year, I plan on spending it on life...house, payments, wifey, etc. Then I plan to purchase the naming rights to Smashing Time and start feuding with POP
To make beer pong better we need to add A PONGBAR!! Just kidding! JUST KIDDING! That is the worst idea I’ve ever heard of! I guess I'd change the amount of rules being added to the game. In my opinion, it is making the game less fun. I remember when teams dressed up or there was a team with a dominatrix and her pet man, it was odd but funny. Now I feel like the game is too serious and way too competitive...and the addition of more rules doesnt help. Imaginary plane rule, dont move cups, dont act like a wild animal, haha..You cant do this, you cant do that..I'll play by them but doesnt mean i have to like them.
Shane Shep- My top 3 finishes are 5th Place AC 2009, 5th Place Socal Open 2009, 17th place AC 2010. Just won a tape line tournament in NYC with Deep hosted by WPT.
I'll be playing with MAHHH MANNN DEEP under the name Fire and Ice. We've never played together in a major.
When we in the WSOBP VI, I'll be spending it on college debt, haha I know lame.
I think the game is fine the way it is, don't change something that ain't broke
6. Allergic to Losing: Kevin Kessler & Brian Nentwig (Twig)
Kevin Kessler- I placed first in the AC singles tournament in 2010 (my personal highest payout to date walked away with $3,400). I placed 3rd with Deep at the WSOBP V and 2nd in the singles tourney that year (Basile drugged me and I lost to that bitch Chichester in the finals). I'm going to interrupt your interview and ask myself a question. Kevin Who is the biggest piece of shit in all of competitive beer pong? Answer Jason Fu*king Chichester! To date I have 7 satellite bids.
My Partner for the WSOBP VI is Brian Nentwig (Twig) We’re playing under the team name Allergic to Losing. Other then cash games and sit and goes I’ve never played an official tournament with him however I don’t feel there will be any chemistry problems and will gladly play a supporting role to the kid. He is one of the 3-4 best players in the game and gets no recognition because he lives in the same state as the scum Chichester.
I would definitely put some of the money back into the pong community. I would help Oneil get a job, Shit he has not had one in this current administration. I would buy Mantis a hooker. Give Posado a makeover. Get Pops a new pair of jorts. Pay for Basiles rehab. (Fredo recently pummelled him and broke his wrist ) true story. I would get Sanoma Joe a gym membership and lastly hire someone to piss on Chichester.
I think B/D/S have a
done a great job fine tuning the rules and there really isn’t any holes
currently. The only thing I might suggest is that on the bring back in order
for that cup to get pulled both players need to shoot at the same cup and hit
it. Right now the way the rules are set top players can win a game/ tournament all
by their self. The 2-man really only needs to hit 3 cups a game maybe 4.
Thanks
BTW Jason is my boy we just like breaking balls.
Brian Nentwig- Top 3 Finishes - 1st place in Drunken Bear 5K,
2nd place in WSOBP IV, and 17th for WSOBP III. I have won 0 satellites this
year, due to the fact that I have not played in a satellite tournament this
year.
Partner - I'm playing with Kessler, who is an absolute beast. Even though we
have never played together, I feel as comfortable as ever on the same side of
the table as him. He is definitely one individual I would not want to see
playing against me, so I had to pick him up. He might not miss the whole
tourny!
Spend my loot - I'm currently in the process of trying to buy a home, so that
would definitely be a nice down payment for me. I would also buy Mantis a
prostitute if he promised to never talk to me ever again!
Change - One thing I would like to see change is the amount of shit talking. It
really has become a joke watching 45 minute games, and everyone just running
there mouth rather then shooting.
